Silver Teal: ( Anas versicolor) These beautiful ducks are located in South America and extend from Southern Bolivia to Southern Brazil and south to Central Argentina. Named for their silver-gray flanks and hindquarters, Silver Teal are commonly known as Versicolor Teal, probably because of their multi-colored plumage. Charming little ducks with wide dark brown or black caps that contrast sharply with their distinctive pale-cream chicks, the rather long-powder blue bill is enhanced by yellowish-orange basal patches. Springing easily from the water, the low-flying ducks are noted for a swift, darting flight, and often circle areas from where they flushed before returning. Pairs remain together year-round, hence strong, long term pair bonds are indicated. |
