Blue-Winged Teal: (Anas discors) Fast and wary, Blue Wings fly in small groups or flocks, turning in unison and flashing the blue area of the wing. They arrive latest of all ducks at their breeding grounds and leave early in the fall. In the past, when large numbers of these ducks left the prairies on migration, they were heavily hunted, and their population drastically declined. They are in less danger today because the hunting season opens later, after most of the birds have already migrated. |
